Happy Mardi Gras from Marilyn Rose Interiors!
Did you know that Mardi Gras has its roots in ancient Rome? The Romans celebrated all sorts of winter and fertility festivals. These festivals grew and developed over time. Now, the Carnevale di Venezia is held every year in Venice this time of year, ending with a big party on Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras).
The Venetian celebrations are legendary, and include lots of parties and merriment. Some of the most well-known icons of Carnevale di Venezia are the popular Venetian masks that revelers wear. These masquerade masks have grown to be a universal icon of Mardi Gras celebrations around the world.
The center of American Mardi Gras is in New Orleans, of course. The New Orleans Mardi Gras traditions have roots in French and Cajun culture. As they say in New Orleans, Laissez les bon temps roulez!
